About

I photograph people at work and the places they work in, across Alberta and the north. Fourteen years of editorial and documentary commissions, and a small print shop where the best of it becomes editions on paper. Most jobs begin with a conversation and a coffee, not a shot list.

The work I take on

  1. Editorial and documentary

Long days on location for magazines, organizations and annual reports. Real people, real light, nothing staged that could not have happened.

  2. Portraits on location

One person or forty, at their place, in an hour that does not feel like an hour. Staff, boards, artists, families.

  3. Print editions

Silver gelatin and pigment prints from my negatives and yours. Numbered, signed, and framed if you like.

    ( 3 )
  4. Archive and licensing

Fourteen years of Alberta pictures, searchable by place and season, licensed for print, screen and campaigns.

Projects

A selection from the last few years, from a long winter on the rail line to a year of prairie grain elevators. Each one started as a conversation and ended as prints.

Voices

"Mira spent two days with our crews and came back with pictures that look like the work actually feels. Our annual report has never had this many people ask about the photographs."

J. Okafor · Communications lead, Kettle River Co-op

"The prints arrived flat, signed, and better than they looked on the screen. She answered every question about paper and framing before we knew to ask it."

R. Thibault · Collector, Saskatoon

"We booked an hour of portraits for twenty staff. Nobody looked stiff. That is the whole review."

A. Cardinal · Executive director, Willow Bend Family Centre
